Artful Dodger

Privacy Policy

Last updated 9th October 2026

Who we are

Artful Dodger is run by Jackson Carter Ltd ("we" or "us"). We're responsible for the personal information you share in the app, which makes us its "data controller" under UK data protection law.

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email [email protected], or write to Jackson Carter Ltd, 27 Old Gloucester Street, London, England, WC1N 3AX.

Who can use Artful Dodger

Artful Dodger is only for people aged 18 and over. We ask for your date of birth to check this. If we find out that someone under 18 has an account, we'll delete it.

What we collect

When you use Artful Dodger, we collect:

  • Your email address, which you use to sign in. We email you a code each time, so we never store a password.

  • Your profile: your first and last name, @handle, city and, if you add one, a photo.

  • Your date of birth and mobile number. These are private and never shown to anyone else.

  • The reviews you write, including the rating, what you wrote and when.

  • Which leagues you're in and look after, who your mates are, and who you've blocked.

  • Round Keeper sessions: who was out, who bought each round and when, and who nudged whom. We never record how much anyone drinks.

  • Round Keeper drinks orders: the drink each person wants, if someone types it in. We only keep each person's latest drink, and delete them all when the session ends.

  • If you turn on notifications, a code from your phone that lets us send it nudges. We delete it when you sign out.

  • Mate requests you send and receive, and whether you let people find you in search.

  • Reports you send us, and reports other people send about you or your reviews.

  • When you agreed to our Terms of Use and this policy.

Our service providers also keep standard technical records, such as your IP address and when you signed in, to keep the service secure and working.

Friends you add

When you add a mate, you give us their first and last name, their email address and, if you choose, a photo. We use these only to set up their place on Artful Dodger and to send them one email saying who added them, with a link to join.

Friends you add appear on your league table straight away and can be rated before they've joined. If they'd rather not be on Artful Dodger, they can open the app, sign in with their email address and choose "Don't want to join? Delete my details", or email [email protected]. Please only add people you think would be happy to be added.

If someone you add hasn't joined within 6 months, we automatically delete their details, including their photo and any reviews of them.

If you delete your account, anyone you added who hasn't joined, and isn't anyone else's mate, is deleted too.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • run the app, including your account, profile, league tables and reviews. We need to do this to provide the service you asked for.

  • show tonight's drinks order to the people out with you, so whoever's buying knows what to get.

  • check you're 18 or over, to keep Artful Dodger adults-only.

  • email you sign-in codes, and invite the friends you add. We don't send marketing emails.

  • send a notification to your phone when a mate nudges you because it's your round, if you've turned notifications on. We don't send any other notifications.

  • keep Artful Dodger safe, by filtering out hateful words and private information, dealing with reports, and removing content or accounts that break our Terms of Use. This is in our legitimate interests, and yours.

We ask for your mobile number so we can add signing in and inviting mates by text message in future. Until then, we don't use it for anything.

We don't sell your information, show you adverts or use tracking cookies.

Who can see your information

  • Other signed-in members can see your name, @handle, city and photo.

  • Unless you switch off "Let people find me in search" in Edit my profile, anyone signed in can also find you in search and see your rating and the reviews about you. With it switched off, only you and your mates can see them.

  • Reviews you write are shown with your name and @handle to the person you reviewed, to their mates and, if that person can be found in search, to anyone signed in.

  • Round Keeper sessions are shown to everyone in that league.

  • Drinks orders are only shown to the people in that Round Keeper session, not to the rest of the league.

  • When you nudge someone, the notification on their phone shows your first name and the league.

  • Your date of birth, email address and mobile number are private. Only you and we can see them.

  • When you report something, we can see who sent the report. The person you reported isn't told.

We use three service providers, who handle information only on our instructions:

  • Supabase, which stores the app's information and photos and handles signing in. Your information is stored in the European Union.

  • Resend, which delivers the app's emails. It may handle email addresses and the content of emails in the United States.

  • Expo, which delivers nudges to phones through Apple's and Google's notification services. It handles your phone's notification code and the words of each nudge in the United States.

Whenever information goes outside the UK, we rely on the legal safeguards that UK data protection law requires.

We'll only share your information with anyone else if the law requires it, for example if the police ask us to.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as you have an account.

When you delete your account (from Edit my profile), we straight away delete your profile, private details, photos, mates and blocks, the reviews you've written, the reviews written about you, reports you've sent and reports about you, and your phone's notification code.

The details of friends who were added but haven't joined within 6 months are deleted automatically.

Copies of reports emailed to us are kept only while we deal with them, and never longer than 12 months.

Our service providers may keep backup copies for a short time before they are overwritten.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • get a copy of your information

  • correct it (you can change most of it yourself in Edit my profile)

  • have it deleted (you can do this yourself with Delete my account)

  • object to, or restrict, how we use it

  • ask for a copy you can take to another service

To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll reply within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Keeping your information safe

Everything sent between the app and our service providers is encrypted. Each person can only see and change what they're allowed to, and we don't store passwords.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and ask you to agree again in the app.
